Astronomers around the world looked to the sky on Tuesday night and Wednesday
morning to observe Venus as it passed across the face of the Sun for the last
time this century.
Svalbard was the best place to observe the transit of Venus as Venus
transits the midnight sun. In Longyearbyen several hundred people gathered
outside to watch this rare astronomical phenomenon. Next chance to see the
transit of Venus will be in 2117.
