The Board of Svalbard Science Forum is appointed by the Interministerial Committee on Polar Affairs with one representative from each of the institutions listed below. The appointment is for 3 years at a time and representatives are nominated by each institution.

The following institutions form the SSF board:
  • The Research Council of Norway (RCN)
    The Research Council is the principal research policy adviser to the government. It acts as a meeting-place and network-builder for the Norwegian research community.
     
  • Kings Bay AS (KB)  
    Kings Bay AS manages the infrastructure of the Ny-Ålesund community . The company’s primary mission is to provide services for international research communities in Ny-Ålesund.
     
  • Norwegian Polar Institute (NPI)
    The Norwegian Polar Institute is Norway's central institution for polar research, environmental monitoring and mapping of the polar regions.
     
  • The University Centre in Svalbard (UNIS)
    The University Centre in Svalbard is a state-owned limited company and provides university level education in arctic studies and carries out arctic research.
     
  • The Ny-Ålesund Science Managers Committee (NySMAC)
    The Ny-Ålesund Science Managers Committee was established to enhance cooperation and coordination amongst research activities at the international research base in Ny-Ålesund.
     
  • Longyearbyen Science and Education Forum (LySEF)
    Longyearbyen Science and Education Forum was established to enhance cooperation and coordination amongst research, education and tourism activities in Longyearbyen.
